How to Buy Reps: A Beginner's Guide (2026)

RepSheet Team · Updated June 2026 · 4 min read

Reps — short for replicas — are unofficial reproductions of designer and streetwear pieces, made in China and bought through a “shopping agent” system. This guide walks you through the whole process, from finding an item to getting it delivered.

What is a “rep”?

A rep is a replica of a branded item — sneakers, a hoodie, a watch, a bag — produced by independent factories rather than the original brand. Quality ranges from obvious knock-offs to near-indistinguishable 1:1 reproductions. Most reps are listed on Chinese marketplaces like Weidian, Taobao and 1688 by individual sellers.

The catch: those marketplaces don't sell directly to international buyers and require a Chinese phone number and payment method. That's where shopping agents come in.

The shopping-agent system, explained

A shopping agent (Mulebuy, Kakobuy, CNFans and others) is a middleman that buys the item for you. The flow looks like this:

  1. You find a product and copy its marketplace link.
  2. You paste the link into your agent and pay them (in USD, via card or PayPal).
  3. The agent buys it from the Chinese seller and receives it at their warehouse.
  4. They take QC photos (quality-control pictures) of your exact item.
  5. You approve, then combine everything into one parcel and pick a shipping line.
  6. The agent ships it internationally to your door.

You never need a Chinese bank account — the agent handles all of that.

Step by step: your first order

1. Find the item

Historically people browsed giant “spreadsheets” — shared lists of links. The problem is they're slow to search and the same item appears under different names. That's exactly why we built RepSheet: search by name or brand and get the agent links instantly. Try shoe reps or hoodies.

2. Pick an agent and paste the link

Each RepSheet product has Mulebuy and Kakobuy buttons. Click one, make a free account, and the product loads in your cart automatically.

3. Pay and wait for QC

Pay the item price plus a small domestic shipping fee. Within a few days the agent posts QC photos. Inspect stitching, logos, color and shape before approving.

4. Ship it home

Submit your warehouse items as a parcel and choose a shipping line. Cheaper lines are slower; expedited lines (DHL/FedEx-style) arrive faster but cost more. Pay the international shipping and track it home.

Beginner tip: order one item first. Learn the QC and shipping flow on a low-stakes purchase before committing to a big haul.

Understanding batches and QC

The same design is often made by several factories at different quality tiers, called batches. A higher batch usually means better accuracy and a higher price. Confused by terms like “OG batch” or “PK”? We break them all down in Reps Slang & Batches Explained.

When reviewing QC, check: logo placement and font, stitch density and straightness, the color under natural light, hardware weight on bags, and the insole/box on shoes.

Shipping, customs and timing

Door-to-door usually takes 1–4 weeks depending on the line and your country. Parcels occasionally get held or seized by customs; experienced buyers keep declared values modest and avoid ordering huge quantities in one box. This is general information, not legal advice — importing counterfeit goods carries legal risk that varies by country.

FAQ

Is buying reps illegal?

Laws vary by country. In many places buying a replica for personal use is rarely enforced, but importing counterfeit goods can lead to customs seizure, and reselling them is a separate legal issue. This article is general information, not legal advice — check your local rules.

Do I need a Chinese bank account or VPN?

No. Shopping agents like Mulebuy and Kakobuy accept international cards and PayPal, and their sites work in English worldwide.

How long does shipping take?

Typically 1–4 weeks door to door, depending on the shipping line you choose and your country's customs.

What does QC mean?

Quality Control — photos the agent takes of your specific item before shipping, so you can approve it or request a replacement.
